Construction due to begin on Gulf causeway
Bangkok News.Net Tuesday 24th November, 2009
Work is due to start on the Qatar-Bahrain Causeway in the first quarter of next year.
Final plans are being made to the 40-kilometre long causeway, which is being designed to share trade, tourism and business between the two Gulf nations.
The project will have two lanes in each direction as well as a rail platform to provide twin tracks for freight and high-speed passenger trains.
Bahrain has already been connected with Saudi Arabia through the 26-kilometre long King Fahd Causeway, which was built in 1986.
Up to now, Qatar and Bahrain have had to rely on air transportation for trade and tourism. Email this story to a friend
