YANGON, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The number of Omicron infections has increased to 211 in Myanmar after 28 more confirmed cases were reported on Thursday, according to a release from the Ministry of Health.
The ministry said Omicron variant was found in seven returnees each from Thailand and Malaysia, six from Singapore, three from South Korea, two each from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India, and one from Japan.
Myanmar reported 168 new COVID-19 infections with a daily positivity rate of 1.41 percent in the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 534,671, the release said.
No new deaths from the COVID-19 were recorded on Thursday, leaving the death toll unchanged at 19,310 in the country.
A total of 512,742 patients have been discharged from hospitals and over 6.31 million samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far.
Myanmar detected its first two COVID-19 positive cases in March 2020.
