BANGKOK, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's Olympic champion Chen Yufei continued her strong performance here on Friday to reach the women's singles semifinals of the BWF World Tour Finals.
Building on her momentum from the victory over world champion Akane Yamaguchi on Thursday, Chen cruised past South Korea's An Se-young 21-16, 21-12.
After a surprising defeat in her first group match, Chen swept Yamaguchi and An - the top two women's singles players - to advance to the semifinals. "These two wins have really boosted my confidence," she said, "I will get ready for the next match."
Chen's teammate He Bingjiao came from behind to beat Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 8-21, 22-20, 21-13 for her third group win.
In the women's doubles, Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu joined teammates Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan to qualify for the semifinals after defeating Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan 21-19, 20-22, 21-9.
China's men's doubles pair Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi extended their winning streak to three matches by beating Indonesian veterans Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-13, 21-18.
In the mixed doubles, China's Olympic champions Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping failed to qualify for the next round following their second defeat in the group stage. They were unable to convert their lead against world No. 1 Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in the first set and went down 23-21, 21-13. Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, who had already secured a berth in the semifinals, enjoyed a walkover as Malaysian pair Goh Soon Hua and Lai Shevon Jemie Lai withdrew.
Chinese shuttlers will be absent from the men's singles semifinals after Lu Guangzu lost to Kodai Naraoka of Japan 21-19, 21-15 to finish the group stage with only one win.
