Launch Price THB 769k (Rs 18.45 L)

MPV popularity is on the rise in developing markets of South East Asia. In India too, MPV sales are increasing. As of now, Maruti Suzuki has its grip firmly tightened around this segment with Ertiga and XL6. Kia already has an MPV on sale in the form of Carens. Hyundai is expected to launch a new MPV soon.

As of now, Stargazer has been launched in Thailand for a starting price of 769,000 Baht (approx Rs. 18.45 lakh) for base Trend trim and goes till 909,000 Baht (approx Rs. 21.81 lakh) for Smart 6-seater with a black roof. Hyundai is offering it in both 6-seater and 7-seater options and is equipped with a sole 1.5L NA petrol engine option with IVT gearbox.

For starters, Stargazer follows the new design language for MPVs as seen with the much more premium and larger Staria MPV from Hyundai. Some of these design elements are also observed in the recently launched Verna sedan in India. We're talking about a wide LED light bar split in three distinct elements.

The outer smaller LED elements don't double up as turn indicators though. At the rear, there is a 'H' shaped LED tail light bar with triangular brake light elements housed in a large blackened section. Side profile vastly stays true to the Staria MPV - it gets stylized alloy wheels in top-spec Smart trims and slightly plain alloys with mid-spec variants.

Dimensionally, measures 4460 mm in length, 1780 mm in width, and 1695 mm in height. Wheelbase is identical to that of the Kia Carens at 2780 mm. Compared to Stargazer, Carens comes off as longer, wider and even taller. Hyundai is likely to launch Stargazer in other ASEAN countries soon.

Loaded with new-age tech and features

We have done a thorough variant-wise comparison in an earlier post. In a gist, we get automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering mounted audio controls, cruise control, LED headlights, LED tail lights, 16" alloys, wireless charger, ambient lighting, tray tables for 2nd row, and Hyundai Smartsense ADAS suite.

Variants include base Trend variant priced at 769,000 Baht (Rs. 18.45 lakh), Style variant priced at 829,000 Baht (Rs. 19.89 lakh), Smart 7-seater priced at 869,000 Baht (Rs. 20.85 lakh) and Smart 6-seater priced at 889,000 Baht (Rs. 21.33 lakh). For the top-spec trim, a dual-tone option with Black roof costs 20,000 Baht (Rs. 48K).

Specs & Rivals

A sole 1.5L NA MPi petrol engine powers in Thailand. This engine is similar to the one found in India as well. It is capable of developing 113 bhp of power and 144 Nm of torque. Gearbox options are limited to a sole IVT (CVT) unit.

In Thailand, it competes with Suzuki Ertiga, Honda BR-V, Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Veloz in Thailand. Hyundai Stargazer MPV India launch could take place in 2024. Here it will compete with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6 and its cousin Kia Carens. Prices are likely to be in the region of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
